Save Our Meadows
The Campaign continues
Camping on the Meadows?
There is no chance that camping will be allowed on the Meadows. See this letter from the Council Leader, Jenny Dawe, and this article in the Evening News.
Oh really? How come Occupy are allowed to camp there then? What are we to make of it? See Councillor Cameron Rose's Blog, and the Evening News on 30/1/2012 and again on 31/1/2012 on this.
How about volunteering?
Would you like to help us with some little jobs around the Meadows and Links? If so look here.
The next opportunity for volunteering is on 25th February 2012.
New Rules for Parks
New rules are being drawn up for the parks in Edinburgh. You can comment on them up to the end of January 2012. You can find the rules here, and enter your comment via this link.
Disease and storms take their toll. We must plant replacements for all the trees we are losing.
But there is hope of more planting, according to Councillor Cameron Rose.
What concerns us
Addressing the AGM in June 2011, retiring Convener Chris Wigglesworth spoke of a number of concerns about the Meadows and Bruntsfield Links. Council policies, and particularly those of the South Central Neighbourhood Partnership were causing concern in the following areas:
- Tree planting and management
- Blossom tree replacement
- Barbecue damage
- The state of the grass
- Events policy
- The need for better toilet facilities
- Recyling and litter removal
- Restoration of the Jawbones
- Park Ranger cover
The new committee will be trying to address these issues in the coming months. Any support you can give would be much appreciated. Do get in touch. (See
Contacts page)
Please go to our
Current Issues page to find out more about these concerns.

Meadows Chamber Orchestra
Although they are nothing to do with FoMBL, the orchestra are good friends of ours, so we like to give them some publicity here.
