With very little consultation, an area of the Links on Whitehouse Loan was fenced off and tarmac'd.

After much protesting from local residents the following notice appeared on the fencing:

and the message below was sent out by Cllr Lesley Hinds.

MESSAGE SENT ON BEHALF OF CLLR LESLEY HINDS CONVENER TRANSPORT, INFRASTRUCTURE & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL

Following discussions between me and the Vice Convener, Cllr Jim Orr and taking on board concerns raised by local residents, I have this afternoon spoken to the Director of Services for Communities and asked him to revisit the proposal to move some of the recycling facilities at James Gillespie's HS to Bruntsfield Links. I understand that this decision also reflects the views of local Ward Members on this matter and is based on the lack of consultation on the proposals.

I have also asked the Director to look at the possibility of the recycling bins remaining at the school site and if this is not possible, that all steps be taken to identify an appropriate alternative site, which would be subject to full consultation with the local Community, before any firm decision is taken.

In any event I have requested that arrangements be made to reinstate the area of the Links involved to its previous condition and have been assured that this will be carried out in due course.

I would again like to thank you for bringing this matter to my attention and trust that this action meets the concerns raised by you and other local residents.
